What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour :

The lights themselves, were just bright lights above another part of town, similar in colour to streetlights, but with a slightly more red hue and bigger.

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly :

I was stood on a mound on a field, walking up and down with my guitar. My friends were in a nearby building at the time and something caught my eye on the north west horizon. There were five in a large circle at first and a sixth to the right of them. They faded in and out seemingly taking it in turns, before they faded out all together. By this point I was screaming hysterically at a friend down the phone to come and see this, who dismissed it as hallucinations. One came back in the same place, fading in for twenty seconds before fading out again. This happened every minute, until four of these lights came back, took it in turns to fade in and out and then the single light came back again, fading in and out every two minutes or so. By this point, I had managed to get a crowd of 6 friends to come out and look. I was worried it would be sod's law that they didn't come back, but the best was yet to come! They saw the single one on it's own about three times before higher up, there was a flash and two lights shot downwards next to eachother and stopped, a little higher than where the single light had been. Another light faded in above these two, to make a bright small triangle, before two fainter lights faded in nearby, making another triangle. These lights then continued to make a series of patterns. The lights themselves didn't "move" as such, but faded from place to place. It's hard to explain. Some of the patterns were complex and the way the lights changed between them (there were around 6 lights by this point) was unreal. This lasted about three minutes before they all faded out and my crowd of friends were laughing/screaming/crying. You get the picture. We stood and watched as the single light came back again a few times and ten-fifteen minutes later, the bright single light faded in, and became the top right corner of a slanted square. The three other lights faded in, and more lights joined the bottom right corner, close together. I believe we counted about 8 or 9 in total, with 5 or 6 in just one corner. We saw more patterns each with around four lights in, before they faded away, and again we were left in shock. At this point I had to leave, as a friend's parent was giving me a lift, but as soon as I got home, my dad drove out with me to the field we were stood on. As we climbed the mound, he saw the bright single one with another light by it, that faded out. We stood there for a few minutes (not long enough to see patterns - he was very determined to find the source and prove to me that there was nothing). A few minutes later, we saw a single light "pop" in to view. This descended some way, faded out, and would appear in the same place, before descending again. This happened 5 times, before it stopped and we drove out to try and find the source. He refused to come back to the field again, so I don't know the end time of the sequence of events. I've never seen anything like it before and I'm up on the field a lot.
