Sighting Details

What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour :

A round light about the size of a helecopter landing light 9 miles away. As it approached,the light grew to the size of a dime, about 6 miles away. It was very bright and round in shape. Like Plasma, couldn't see through it. No other markings.

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly :

We were in the Con tower of a Submarine about 30 miles west of Oahu when we spotted it. It came toward our starboard bow at an elevation of 3 to 4 thousand feet about 9 miles out. It was about the size of this ( 0 ) when we first saw it. There where other contacts in the area but we knew what they were. It was moving toward us at we guesstamated about 50 mph. When it got about 6 miles away from us, a United Airlines 747 came into view above and behind us through the clouds. It was also in view of the object. the object came to an abrupt stop. The XO then picked up the con phone and called Radar down below and asked for a fix on the object. When the Plane went back into the clouds the object then started again toward us at an accelerated speed. When the radar dish started turning behind us, maybe 1 and 1/2 times. The object stopped rotated backwards to a flat position, stopped, rotated from the left side bottom up to an 75 degree angle stopped then shot off into space at such a high rate of speed it was gone. Radar called us and said it was unidentifiable, They could not get a fix but charted its trijectory and speed only. It left at 24,000 MPH. It kind of had a trail following it like star trek. Maybe that was a play on our eyes. We logged it as a Bogey. and had small talk about it and went about our duty. XO,LTJG,TorpedoMan and myself. We all saw it.

This happened on a warship. It is logged as fact. All I can say it was pretty cool. Nobody was afraid and it stired us all up for about a good hour. Especialy the Radar Guys who didn't see it except on radar. 24,000mph gone.
