Sighting Details

What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour :

Reddish orange ball which appeared from the east and was travelling west under overcast sky. No stars visible and no aircraft as it was Christmas Day. Assumed it was a police helicopter but there was no noise

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly :

Travelled slowly towards the west anf my wife commented on "Where's was the plane going". I looked out of the window to witness with my wife that it had stopped travelling and was hovvering. I assumed it was apolice helicopter but witnessed no noise. From where we saw the object it was about the size of an aircraft navigation light but not flashing. I went upstairs to get my binoculars and could still only maintain a ball of orange red light. It then slowly gained hieght and dissapeared through the overcast cloud.
