Any additional comments :

I have ben an keen aviation fan for over 30 years and knew instantly that this was no commercial or private aircraft due to the absence of navigation lighting or the usual strobe identification lights. I was fishing on the towns pier at the time and talking to a visitor to the area who could also not believe what he had saw. My father was some distance from me also saw it and had seen it earlier when the object performed a rapid vertical descent. He has since denied this earlier sighting and claimed what was seen must have been a hot air baloon which is completely out of character to him. In my view there is no way a balloon could travel at 200-300mph on winds of only 7-8mph as they were that evening.I am concerned that my father has so changed his mind. It`s as though something has happened to him that I am unaware of. Personally I have never seen anything quite like this before and I cannot explain what is was. I hope this report will be of some use.
