REPORTED CLAIM
Former Pentagon UFO chief casts doubt on FBI's black triangle sighting
Sean Kirkpatrick, who led the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, has questioned an FBI account of a dark, silent triangular object reportedly seen hovering near a sensitive site in the western US in June 2026 before vanishing into a canyon. He said the two FBI agents' testimony came with no photographs or corroborating data, and warned against treating their credentials as proof, calling it 'a classic case of authority bias.' Kirkpatrick said none of the data he reviewed matched an alien hypothesis, suggesting the object could instead be undisclosed aerospace technology, drawing a comparison with the once-secret F-117 stealth fighter.

EXPLAINER
Historian says Cold War secrecy, not a cover-up, explains Air Force's old reluctance on UFOs
Mark Rodeghier, director of the Center for UFO Studies, says the US Air Force's historic downplaying of UFO reports, including through Project Blue Book after 1953, was driven by Cold War-era secrecy rather than knowledge of alien contact. Speaking on the 'Reality Check' podcast with Ross Coulthart, Rodeghier said the military wanted to protect classified aircraft programmes and avoid overwhelming reporting channels needed to catch genuine foreign incursions into US airspace. He did not tie the explanation to any specific new sighting.
