A line of orange/yellow lights in the sky - towards the East.

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly:
Lights appeareared to be stationary for some time then a whitish light ran along beneath from left to right - then the right half disappeared and the remaining left half broke up and moved upwards- Also to slowly disappear.
Any additional comments:
Half of my street came out and saw them. It was truely a mass sighting- and people wrote about it for weeks in the local paper.
It was not scary - it just left us thinking- WOW!.. was that real?..
