What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour:
The object appeared to be a dull orange ball/orb.
It was hard to judge the size because there was nothing to compare it to. I would say it was about a quarter of an inch across. (viewed at arms length)

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly:
The object just hovered over the sea. It appeared to be stationary, not rotating or anything.
Any additional comments:
I was on a military excersise at the time. It was about 2 in the morning. I was driving an army truck across the excersise area, without lights, when I saw the object, out to sea, to the west. I had my camera with me so stopped to take a photograph. It was an orange ball, dull in colour and was just hanging there in the dark.
I have no idea how big it was because there was nothing to judge it by.
