What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour:
The object was just a dark shape, typical UFO shape.
Judging by the distance, I estimate it to have been about 20 - 30 feet across.

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly:
The object sped past, from south to north at, I would estimate, about 300 mph.
Any additional comments:
My wife and I were on a 'day trip', by coach, to Weston-Super-Mare, in August 1984. It was about 2.30 in the afternoon and we stood, looking at an island, called 'Steep Holm' about 5 miles off the coast. As I raised my camera to take a photograph, I spotted the object. I took the picture just as it sped past the end of the pier.
