SIGHTING REPORT UFO sighting at Peterlee, County Durham UK

Black or dark coloured, large in size, resembled a telephone pole with two cross peices like a large crucifix but with an extra cross peice the same size as the top one.. the same distance from the bottom of the upright part as the first cross peice was from the top. At each end of these cross-peices was a strong white steady light 4 in all. Very top of the UFO was a flashing coloured light but for some reason I cannot remember its colour.

It was travelling slowly forward from NW to SE it was flying slightly inclined forward and did not appear to be making any sound though I was in a car at the time so may not have heard any sound it made

For some reason this object shook me... it was very impressive looking and appeared to me to be at least a hundred or more feet tall and flying maybe 500 feet from the ground. The lights were very bright but the sky was not yet dark and the object could be seen very clearly. Until now I have thought that if we were being visited why in the world would the craft display lights at all let alone a flashing light? why draw that much attention? what logical purpose would such attention getting displays have if they were trying NOT to be discovered? This sighting has changed my views.
