it was some distance away and was just a round white light

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly:

it just appeared but the strange thing was that a beam of light came up from the ground and guided the craft to the earth.

Any additional comments:

prior to the round light appearing there were a cluster of round white lights that did not appear to belong in the night sky
