I am seeking any advice or suggestions you might have. Do you have any historical sightings that might tie into my mystery?
I have been a very amateur rock hound for a lot of years, and have an interest in anthropology. During the summer of 2007 while back into the North section of Butt Township, District of Nippissing, Ontario Canada. I observed what I think may be an impact site, probably of a meteorite. There was an unusual sample of a melted type material that has the appearance of being a melted plastic. It is fairly light bluish/greenish very hard, and lightweight. It looks like something that might have come out of a blast furnace. I have not been able to melt a chunk with a torch. It does not conduct electricity for my arc welder. I found three chunks irregular shaped, and about 2 inches in diameter. I presented these samples to a representative of the Royal Ontario Museum at the Rock show in Bancroft and was told that I have a mystery on my hands. The impact site is quite old as the trees in the vicinity are mature. There is a ridge with a v shaped gouge that you can line up with a ploughed trench in the ground. The ground in a gravel type. This is an unusual depression as it is tapered from west to east and abruptly ends in a depression of about 15 feet deep. I cannot envision this depression to be glacier activity, or prehistoric water signatures.
I intend to explore the site the summer of 2008 by investigating the magnetic fields, metal detection, and finally by excavation and observation. I probably will sink some test holes in the area.
