What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour:
The object was out in space, it was slightly bigger than a bright star like Sirius, it was white in colour.
Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly:
I could not sleep so had a cup of tea outside (don't drink alcohol), I looked up and noticed what I initially thought was a bright star but then I noticed that it was moving south easterly, I took a reference from two stars which appeared close to it, this object moved roughly twice the speed of a high altitude passenger aircraft.
It was definetly a very long way away, certainly not within the earth's atmosphere.
I don't think it was a satellite, I have done a bit of amateur astronomy with binoculars and have never seen anything like this white light object before.
It travelled away from me until it dissapeared behind some light cloud cover in the east.

Any additional comments:
Recently I heard on Radio 107 (my local radio station), that people living in my local area saw lights hovering in the sky before they ascended vertically upwards, these sightings were reported around 10.30pm on Saturday, 28.07.07.
