CSIGHTING DETAILS
What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour:
there were 7 quite bright orange lights, flying slowly in formation, triangular mostly, there were 2 groups one of 4 and one of 3 they flow slowly directly overhead with no sound, they flew from newport south towards bristol at a height of between 1500 and 2500 ft below cloud base, i have spent 9 years in the airforce and have seen many aircraft and initally thought it was helicopters but it is unusual to see close formation flying at night and there was no navigation lights (red,green or strobes) also there was no sound and at that height there would have been some sound. i contacted bristol airport and they said they have no information on them,
Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly:
no just the fact that they was very slow moving and the bright orange lights (which helicopters don't have, i know because i worked on 230 sqn puma's in germany) that made it stand out

a fellow worker had seen a similar event a week earlier in bridgend but it was 3 bright orange lights
