Boy Scouts' 1952 sighting of disintegrating object over Catalina Island surfaces in Pentagon files
Declassified files released by the Department of War's PURSUE programme on 23 October include a 1952 US Air Force intelligence report on three Boy Scouts who said they saw a silver object cross the sky above Santa Catalina Island, California, before it appeared to break apart and vanish. The scouts, attending camp at the time, described the object as moving faster than a conventional jet and making an upward turn just before what the report calls its "disappearance by disintegration". The investigating officer noted he made no attempt to verify the witnesses' credibility and judged their account "probably meager at best". A 2024 Pentagon historical review found no verified evidence that past UAP sightings were extraterrestrial.

EXPLAINER
Why physicists are sceptical of claims that UFOs travel faster than light
Some UFO witnesses report objects accelerating so fast that they conclude the craft must exceed the speed of light, Yahoo News reports. Physicists say no UAP case has ever produced reliably measured evidence of superluminal travel, and that relativity sets a fundamental speed limit for ordinary matter rather than just an engineering hurdle to be overcome. NASA has said there is no verified evidence that any UAP represents extraterrestrial technology. The piece notes that apparent extreme speeds in UFO video often result from perspective effects or motion parallax rather than real velocity: in one widely cited Puerto Rico case, an object that appeared to move at extraordinary speed was later found to be drifting at about 3.6 metres per second, with the apparent speed caused by the observing aircraft's own movement.

Ariel School UFO witness breaks 30-year silence in interview with Georges St-Pierre
Paul Trim, who was 11 when dozens of children reported seeing a UFO land near Ariel School in Ruwa, Zimbabwe, on 16 September 1994, has spoken publicly about the encounter for the first time in three decades, in a recorded conversation with UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre. Trim says he saw a saucer-shaped craft land in a field and three small beings in black suits with large eyes that moved with "unusual smoothness". He says he stayed silent for years because teachers showed the children frightening alien-abduction footage afterwards. Harvard psychiatrist John Mack later interviewed several of the children, many of whom maintained their accounts, though at least one former student has disputed the story and no physical evidence has been produced.

Retired US admiral says UAPs may be hiding in the ocean's unexplored depths
Retired Rear Admiral Timothy Gallaudet, a former acting head of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told Sean Hannity's podcast on 27 October that he believes the government has concealed knowledge of UAPs for roughly 80 years. He said the deep ocean, only around 10% of which has been explored, is an ideal place for such objects to hide, and cited footage he says shows an object entering the water without a splash before resurfacing and accelerating skyward, plus a reported sighting from the USS Omaha of a sphere hovering over water before submerging. He described the objects as silent and capable of exceeding the speed of sound without a sonic boom. No independent verification of the footage or claims was given in the report.
