Airline passenger films triangular object over Utah flight path
A passenger on a flight approaching Las Vegas says they filmed a dark, triangle-shaped craft with small lights that passed the aircraft over Utah at what they described as extraordinary speed on 18 October, along with separate white lights circling a red light. The witness submitted the footage to the National UFO Reporting Center, and the account was covered by the radio programme Coast to Coast AM. No conventional explanation was offered for the sighting.

Democrats reportedly plan a House select committee on UAP disclosure if they win the midterms
Indiana congressman Andre Carson is reportedly leading Democratic plans for a House select committee on unidentified anomalous phenomena disclosure, contingent on the party winning control of the House in the midterm elections. Carson says the current administration "has not been fully transparent on UAP and has slow walked several of the statutory requirements Congress established," pointing to a Pentagon historical review report he says is nearly two years overdue. Former intelligence officer David Grusch is quoted as saying whistleblowers "don't trust another president" to protect disclosures, while Republicans are reported to be wary that Democrats could claim credit for future releases. The plan is not yet formally announced and its structure is still unclear.

Unverified object reported appearing to approach the ISS in docking footage
Online reports point to footage, linked to a NASA Dragon docking broadcast, that appears to show an unidentified object moving toward the International Space Station. The object's distance, trajectory, origin and the exact recording date are all unconfirmed, and no collision was reported by ISS operators. Possible mundane explanations raised include other spacecraft, debris, reflections or a parallax illusion caused by the lack of reference points in the footage; NASA says it has found no credible evidence of extraterrestrial life.

EXPLAINER
Where the science and disclosure of UAP sightings stand, according to a CBS News survey
A CBS News report pulls together the current state of US interest in UAP: a CBS News poll finding around 17% of Americans say they have witnessed a UFO, the Trump administration's Scientific Advisory Council on UAP led by Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb, and the more than 155,000 pages released so far across seven PURSUE tranches. It revisits former Navy pilot Ryan Graves' 2023 congressional testimony describing a close encounter off Virginia Beach and David Grusch's testimony that the government recovered crashed craft with biological remains. Graves tells CBS the declassified material released so far is mostly short, low-resolution infrared clips rather than the higher-quality data pilots use for threat assessment. Physicist Matthew Szydagis says the idea of non-human intelligence is no longer laughable, though the report concludes that definitive proof remains elusive.
