CSIGHTING DETAILS

1

What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour:

naked eye-bright high atitude slow moving white light
binoculare-black circle with bright red to yellow to white light in center.
2

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly:

a piper cherokee transited finningly airport from nne to ssw.
as the plane crossed rossington a bright light at anthing upto 40 to 50,000 ft appeared.the light was heading in a easterly direction exceptionaly slowly.i went into my home and left a friend watchung it as it was of a small size (star sized).i returned with my 7x50 yashica binoculars and observed the light in a now stationary position approximatly 2 miles north of the finningly overhead.it was way higher than the cloudbase.at the same time a high level airliner was transiting the finningly zone heading in a wnw direction, the object was approx 3 to 5 miles north of the airliner and a good 15 to 20,000ft higher.the airliner was leaving a clear unbroken vaportrail.the object had no visible exhaust.the sighting lasted from approx 17:15 till 17:25,when due to cloud it was lost.this gives it a stationary position for almost 10 mins.the brightness seemed to slightly fliker as the slight variation in colour happened.had it been dark i would have compaired it to saturn or jupiter on a hot night where the atmospherics create the flickering and fading effect.the object was not a planet or star as it was moving when first observed.it was however comparible in brightness to either of the planets through a telescope during darkness.this however happening during daylight.the black ring shape did not fluctuate.it kept constant throughout.

Any additional comments:

i am an ex-ROYAL OBSERVER CORPS member.
in 1989 or 1990 my team came 3rd at RAF Hendon in the aircraft recognition contest.
i am a keen amature astronomer.
I know my stuff and this comes under the unknown , which is excetionaly rare for me.
I tried to contact RAF Wadingrton first but they have no contact details on there web pages , as they control the airspace in my area.
this has brought me to you after doing a web search...
ANY INFORMATION OR INDEED EXPLANATION WILL BE OF HELP .
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
