CSIGHTING DETAILS
What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour:
There were several (perhaps 2 dozen)"units", eliptical in shape but higher at the top. They flew in formation from west to east over our village and surrounding fields. It was not possible to determine how high they were or how large. They appeared orange-gold but that may have been the setting sun reflecting off them. They moved very fast, were soundless and spread out in a band of three groups. The two outer groups were larger than the centre group. All the individual "units" seemed to move laterally and vertically within the formation, independent of each other, but always moving away from us. Just before they went out of view, the two outer groups seemed to veer off and then drop from view below the horizon.
Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly:
No, they continued foward continuously, very quickly.

Definitely not planes, birds or Northern Lights.
