Former Brazilian minister urges US to release files on 1996 Varginha incident
Aldo Rebelo, Brazil's former science and technology minister, has told the New York Post that US authorities should declassify files on the 1996 Varginha case, in which three women reported a four-foot humanoid creature with glowing red eyes near the town of Varginha. Rebelo claims US personnel took custody of two entities and recovered craft debris, and says Brazil's own military investigation included statements from service personnel and doctors. He says disclosure is "of public and national interest" and has pledged to release Brazil's files if the US moves first. The remarks come as the case marks its 30th anniversary; no US or Brazilian government body has responded to the specific claims.
